Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 And Markus Zusak s The...

Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief are similar in multiple ways. One example being that they both end rather realistically. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak begins and ends rather abruptly. This, however, adds a sense of realism to this moving novel. At the start of The Book Thief, a young girl named Liesel, her younger brother and their mother are on a train to Munich, Germany. The mother was delivering her starved children to foster parents. The boy, however, did not survive the journey. Liesel was still given to the couple, in hopes she won’t receive the same fate of her brother. The exchange does not happen easily, as told on page 28, â€Å" It took nearly fifteen minutes to coax her from the car...There was the gate next, which she clung to...she held on and refused to go inside,† (Zusak 28). As the novel continues Liesel grows to love Herr and Frau Hubermann. The novel continues and the tension begins to build. In the basement of 33 Himmel Street a Jew is hidden. The wrath of Hitler is marching closer and closer to Munich as Liesel learns to love the outlaw. Soon she would know her sins , as told on page 390, â€Å"Liesel was playing soccer when the noise arrived†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢What is that?’...’A herd of cows?’...’The Jews’...They watched the Jews come down the road like a catalog of colors. Introduction: Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) and Walt Whitman (1819-1892) are both considered as founder of the modern American literature. The essay will be focused on an extract of the Chant 33 from the 1881 edition of â€Å"Song of Myself†. In â€Å"Song of Myself† we see that Whitman wants to combine the democracy and the individual but in his 1855 s preface, he advocates simplicity: â€Å"Nothing is better than simplicity.†1 This essay will also analysed the poem 668 extracted from The Complete Poems Of Emily Dickinson published in 1975. There are standards and the mandatory labels which promotes sustainable consumption and general welfare. Some of the countries like Australia are establishing the energy efficiency standards for most of the home appliances and electronic products which saves energy till the 80% of the level. For e.g. Australia is the first country which announced that the incandescent light bulbs will be completely removed from the market and the florescent bulbs will be introduced which will save the energy as high as 80%. Like this, the marketers should follow the good practices and promote the sustainable consumption in the target markets (OECD, 2008). The companies are not promoting ethical and sustainable consumption as they are more concerned for their high number of sales and more profits. The large corporations are taking some towards to promote sustainability but they are not doing enough for that. According to Bolderdijk and Steg (2015), sustainable consumption includes the discomfort from the side of consumers. It is because sustainable consumption is expensive. For e.g. the organic vegetables or greenhouse gases alternatives. To make it attractive for the consumers, it has to be made extra rewarding for them which can be done by providing subsidies on the energy efficient products, organic foods products or anything which promotes the sustainable consumption. It is because money is the most powerful resource which affect the buying and consumption behaviour of the customers. So, the customers will be finally diverted to consume sustainably by making the consumption financially attractive with the help of subsidies, rebates and tax credits (Bolderdijk and Steg, 2015). The companies are increasing the sustainability of their own operations but they are failing to put efforts on the sustainable consumption. They are giving excuses for the same. Some of the companies are claiming that the customers are not read for the sustainable consumption. They are not concerned or interested in buying the products which are sustainability good. For this, the marketers should run campaigns like they do for promoting their new launches. In the views of Whelan (2013), the companies also claim that they do promote sustainable products but the customers show no interest. It is because either the product is costly or not as per the standards and expectations of the customers. The companies give a reason for the failure in promoting the sustainable products that it is too expensive to promote sustainable consumption which ultimately hampers the profitability of the company (Whelan, 2013). One of the main reasons for not doing so is that the marketers do not take sustainability as their core attribute. The marketers should find one or the other innovative measures to sell sustainability and to promote sustainable consumption. It has been ignored by most of the marketers and the consumers too. It can be done by growing interest in the societies and supporting the sustainable initiatives. Promoting sustainable consumption is a major challenge for the marketers (Makower, 2013). They are not able to fulfil the commitments and failing in promoting the sustainable consumption within the customers. According to van Dam (2016), sustainable consumption is necessary as the global economy will not be able to meet the needs of the ever growing population within the limited resources in future. The companies are having half-hearted marketing campaigns for the sustainable products and sometimes they are not sufficient enough to influence the consumers for the consumption of such ite ms. People from across the world are required to take up consumption which enhances health and livelihood of all to shift the direction of the world. The business is failing to take care of the society and this planet but it needs to be done to maintain competitive edge in the industry and to meet the long term expectations and benefits of the consumers and of the environment. Goals, strivings, coping strategies, values, beliefs, and other motivational, developmental, and social– cognitive versions of characteristic adaptations are activated in response to and ultimately shaped by everyday social demands. Adler, Erikson, Rogers, Maslow, Kelly, Bandura—none of these personality theorists showed more than passing interest in dispositional traits. Hamlet's Frustration In order to understand Hamlet, we must understand his frustration. This frustration is most clear in his famous monologue, famously beginning with the line "Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I." This self-condemnation is contrasted by his admiration for the actor of the previous scene, who "in a fiction" is able to "force his soul to his own conceit." The word "soul" is an example of metonymy, as the soul represents the actor's "visage," "tears," "distraction," and "voice." Thus Hamlet equates "soul" with one's actions, so by his own comparison his soul is weak, as he does not take action against the king. The second sentence is furthermore a rhetorical question, beginning with, "Is it notÃ…  " So clearly Hamlet's lack of emotion is "monstrous" in his own mind at the very start of the monologue. The equation of "Hecuba" to "nothing" is then contrasted by Hamlet's "cue" being the murder of his father. Hamlet then states that the actor would "drown the stage with tears" if he were in Hamlet's position. The visual hyperbole which is compounded by the repetition of rhythm ("Make mad the guilty," "appal the free") and the deep assonance ("cleave," "ear," "speech," "free,") serves to further prove Hamlet's belief that he is inadequate, weak, since both the sounds and the exaggeration build to and are immediately compared with Hamlet himself. Hamlet directly holds himself up to the actor and then begins to apply his feeling of inadequacy to his exact situation. The fragment, "yet I" is isolated to emphasize the contrast between the actor and himself, action and inaction. The following metaphoric phrase "dull and muddy-mettled rascal" can only be spoken slowly, thereby illustrating the hesitation through b... ...oretically have an impact, though in reality the purpose of the play is to verify something that Hamlet already knows. ETHICS DILEMMA PAPER One of the most difficult things in the criminal justice field is related to ethics in the criminal justice profession. Whether it being a corrections officer, police officer, or a judge. The main goal is to ensure you as a professional are making the right decision for the greater good and that it falls within the guidelines that are set before you in the laws that have been written. In the recent dilemma that occurred in Broward County on February 19, 2014 is an example of an ethics dilemma in the criminal justice field that happens much too often. I will explain to you the nature of the dilemma, the ethical/unethical decision that was made, the outcome of the situation, and suggest some alternative courses of actions that could have taken place instead and why. NATURE OF THE DILEMMA On February 19, 2014 a Broward County Sheriff’s deputy of 20 plus years on the force conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle traveling unlawfully in the HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane. Once the deputy had the vehicle stopped he was informed by the woman in the driver’s seat that she was recording him conducting the traffic stop. Once the sheriff’s deputy gained knowledge of  this he proceeded to force his way into the woman’s vehicle trying to grab her phone, then pulling her out of the vehicle and dragging her onto the ground causing injuries in several places as another deputy stood by with his gun drawn. All the while this was going on he continued to yell at her stating she was committing a felony and telling her â€Å"I know the law better than you† , and placing her under arrest. The ethical dilemma this situation brings forward is: was the actions taken by this deputy really necessary and justified on an ethical basis? (Miller, 2014). ETHICAL DECISION MADE In this particular situation an unethical decision was made based on the circumstances of the incident at hand. The deputy was committing a crime (felony) himself by unlawfully forcing his way into her vehicle, and detaining her against her will for a crime she did not commit. All for a simple civil infraction (driving in an HOV lane), that could have been handled in a totally different and professional manner. This was the only law the woman was breaking at the time, and the only probable cause the deputy had to go on for the actions that he took. OUTCOME OF THE SITUATION Once the dust settled upon this unfortunate situation, the deputy assumed and thought that the woman was breaking the law by recording the audio and video of the deputy. He assumed that he had to give the woman permission to audio record him. Unfortunately to his disadvantage the Florida courts ruled upholding a â€Å"expectation of privacy provision† (Silverman, 2012) to their all-party law, which the courts ruled does not apply to on-duty police (or anyone in public), as long as you are not interfering with them in conducting their duty. In this particular case the deputy appeared to be uneducated in this revision to the law that the law enforcement agency clearly neglected to educate its department on. ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION/ WHY According to the situation at hand some of the alternative courses of actions that the deputy could have taken and the woman that was being stopped could have been drastically different. Ethically speaking the deputy could have not taken his actions to the extreme that he did all over the simple recording violation that he thought the woman was committing. His life was not in danger nor was there any indication of any physical threat coming from the woman. The deputy totally handled that situation in a very unprofessional and unethical manner. On the other hand the woman could have easily been justified in using deadly force on the deputy if he was not a law enforcement officer. She would have been justified well within the guidelines of Florida’s Justifiable Use of Force law considering he unlawfully forced his into her car and violently dragged her out. Fortunately for him he was a law enforcement officer or he could have been killed. Another course of action for the sheriff’s deputy and the department could have been to properly educate themselves and their officers of the most current laws regarding these types of situations. In addition to making sure each and every deputy gets a refresher course on the necessary use of force procedures every few years. CONCLUSION In conclusion of this ethical dilemma situation, what I can draw from this is several things. One being always treat people in a way I would like to be treated unless circumstances dictate otherwise; it is the right and ethical action to take. Sometimes we just do not get that luxury of doing such an action when dealing with certain types of people and situations and yes certain actions are necessary. Always take the time to educate yourself on certain laws or information you are not sure of before acting on what you think may be correct. English rearranges the word order of the declarative sentence, if its necessary, and replaces the period with an exclamation point. Valence Bond (VB) Theory Definition Valence bond (VB) theory is a chemical bonding theory that explains the chemical bonding between two atoms. Like molecular orbital (MO) theory, it explains bonding using principles of quantum mechanics. According to valence bond theory, bonding is caused by the overlap of half-filled atomic orbitals. The two atoms share each others unpaired electron to form a filled orbital to form a hybrid orbital and bond together. Sigma and pi bonds are part of valence bond theory. This report makes a conclusion that research has also shown that students are reluctant to bring their concerns to the attention of teachers. In effort to combat this, a more organized approach needs to be taken among teachers when handling school bullying. If there is not a current approach to bullying existing in a school, teachers will continue to have varying responses to handling bullying situations, based on their self-efficacy, intent, and empathy toward the victim. Teacher assessments need be given, and programs need to be developed to enhance teacher self-efficacy and knowledge about bullying.

This means that Pakistans debt servicing liabilities will decline by US $ 2.7 billion between 2002 and 2004 and according to the State Bank; the net present value of external debt is expected to decline somewhere between 27 and 43 per cent between 2002 and 2017. All these problems faced by Pakistan are quite alarming and shows a need of taking massive and severe steps to take the position in a controllable mode, as further delay will make Pakistan drift herself into many other financial as well as social issues. Teaching Philosophy As a future art educator, I have been encouraging myself in the past four years to explore and absorb as much about art and education as I possibly can. As my college years are drawing closer towards a conclusion, a new chapter of my life is waiting to be discovered. This is the time to gather what I have learned and synthesize my own set of philosophies on teaching. Under my teaching scope, I would want students to learn about meanings and issues in life through art in addition to the technical skills of art making. I would guide and expect my students to express their views and feelings through this creative process. Furthermore, I anticipate students will recognize that art functions in many facets, and that having the ability to criticize and be aware of the arts around them will enable them to appreciate art as an active and engaged participant in the learning process.
